Embodiment Matters in Social HRI Research: Effectiveness of Anthropomorphism on Subjective and Objective Outcomes

Anthropomorphism, as a design feature of robots, is widely applied to enhance human-robot interaction in the social domain. Current knowledge how anthropomorphism influences perception, attitudes, and actual behavior gained via research with depicted embodied robots. However, it remains unclear comparable insights both approaches are. Results current meta-analysis suggest that positively subjective objective measures case whereas robots predominantly effects on seem emerge. This follow-up analysis aims further investigate this difference by using recoded dataset including data 41 studies, involving over 3,000 participants. The results illustrate investigated indeed facilitates outcomes. Remarkably, studies concerning showed positive level but failed show any an level.
